Hiking Responsibly on the Hoerikwaggo Hike
To hike the Hoerikwaggo Trails is a fantastic opportunity that allows hikers the unique chance to overnight in the Table Mountain National Park. We have a few tips and recommendations for you when hike along the Hoerikwaggo Trail… Please abide to them and follow them. If you have any questions please contact us at info(at)jenmansafaris.com
For your own enjoyment and that of your fellow hikers please note the following:
1. Good hiking means only “leaving footprints and taking photographs”. Picking flowers and fynbos is strictly prohibited.
2. The Hoerikwaggo paths have been constructed to protect the sensitive fynbos ecosystem. Please always stay on the paths!
3. Many animals call the Table Mountain National Park home - please do not feed or disrupt any animals.
4. Guiding and SANParks: “Critical for safety, good conduct of hikers, enforcing permitted access where required and ensuring appropriate use of facilities; and interpretation of cultural and natural treasures. Hikers are obliged to accept the guidance and advice of the Hoerikwaggo Trail Guides. All trail guides will be in radio contact with Park officials at all times.”
5. All overnight facilities will have a permanent on-site management and security presence – you will have nothing to worry about!
6. All facilities and infrastructure will be designed with minimum environmental impact. No new building will be constructed and renovations will keep to the footprint of existing structures. Tented camps will be erected in such a way that they can be removed without a trace.
7. Where possible the Hoerikwaggo Trails and Hoerikwaggo Accommodation uses alternative energy sources and eco-toilets.
8. Fire is only allowed in designated fire areas under the supervision of a trained and accredited guide. The outdoor fires will only be lit on low fire-risk days.
9. All the Hoerikwaggo trails have alternative routes should the weather turn foul. Each of these alternative routes is as enjoyable as the primary route although possibly less challenging.
